Virtual Class Schedule for the month of January 2023
Tuesdays at 9:00 am CT - MIND-BODY BLEND- “In Pursuit of Longevity”
This month we will focus on functional strength with exercises that improve balance such as the single leg stance, body weight squats, bird dog, lateral leg lifts, and the tandem stance. People who do strength training and balance work live longer! We are also continuing to learn the 8-form Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance series. We will introduce Brush Knee, Fair Lady Works the Shuttles, and Grasp the Peacock’s Tail. For this class you will need a small chair, hand weights, and a mat.

Thursdays at 9:00 am CT - YANG YOGA - “Yoga Burn”
This month we will focus on building muscular strength and stamina as well as increasing flexibility and blood flow to the muscles. A Yang practice is powerful, generates heat, increases metabolism and calorie burn. Although this is a more active practice, it is not labeled “advanced.” There will still be options and modifications for everyone, meeting each participant at their comfort level with room to grow. For this class you will need a yoga mat, block, strap, and optional chair and blanket. We may also occasionally use hand weights.

Fridays at 9:00 am CT - CARDIO-STRENGTH FUSION - Interval Training
When it comes to the effectiveness of exercise on longevity, a combination of cardiovascular and strength training offers the most protection. Intervals of higher intensity work tends to target loss of visceral fat, or the layer of adipose tissue around the abdomen area. Higher visceral fat can be a risk factor for mortality rates due to morbidities such as heart disease and diabetes. This month we explore different techniques of interval training such as Tabata, EMOMs, etc. to alternate cardiovascular calisthenics which elevates the heart rate, and strength work to increase muscle mass. Core conditioning, balance work, and flexibility are also included for a well-rounded workout. Equipment needed are hand weights and a mat for floor work. We will implement a good amount of body-weight work as well if you do not have a selection of dumb bells.
